Newborn Photoshoots in Denver and Stapleton

If you asked me for my best advice for your newborn shoot, I recommend that you one, stay calm and two, focus on maintaining the babies routine. If you’ve nailed that, check out some of the information below.

What to wear for newborn photoshoots: For the best Newborn photoshoot, it is most important that your baby is happy and comfortable. Make sure you try on any special outfits prior to the session so that we can be sure it fits and is not something that will make them upset.  Warm sweater onesies don’t work well in the summer. Not every little girl likes wearing bows at hats. If you have a special headpiece you would like them to wear make sure you practice having them wear it. If they have never been comfortable having an accessory on it’s likely not going to happen when we do the shoot. Keep in mind, newborns are cute in about anything that they wear – a white onesie photographs great – as does a naked baby laying on a blanket. Many of the most special newborn photos occur when you capture that baby as they are. If she doesn’t typically wear big skirts and hats, you may want to rethink your wardrobe choice.

If you have any special objects, toys or blankets please bring those along. Bring any toys that make you baby smile or bring comfort to them. If we need to do a quick feeding in the middle of the session or a diaper change we will make that happen too.

Location: Home shoots are usually the best place to photograph newborns as everyone is a little more comfortable there and we have a lot to work with. You don’t need a fancy home to make this work. You will be amazed at what we can get out of a colorful wall, crib and blanket on the floor.

Rescheduling:  Your baby is always photogenic, always takes his naps and never is cranky. But somehow he missed his nap, spit up all day and you can’t sit him down without a scream. What do we do? First of all, stay calm and try to reconcile the routine as much as possible. For the most part, I recommend giving it a try. Sometimes I can get great images within a minute of calmness. This is not always the case, we all have bad days and can reschedule if we need to wait for a day that is sunnier.

When is the right time to photograph my baby? Photographing your baby on the  first day of his life or even the first week is not always possible.

I usually recommend families doing the shoot when they feel ready. But also, know you may not ever quite feel ready. Don’t let the time slip away. If you know you want to book, get in touch with me in advance and let me know it’s coming. We can talk about some general times that will work and schedule something as soon as you know what life will be like upon the babies arrival. Typically families photograph their babies between one and four weeks though there is nothing wrong with waiting a little longer if needed. It’s all your preference.
